I am Sophie Suda and I work as a postdoc at the University of Basel.

My research focuses on anything to do with parliaments, parties, or parties in parliament. I am also a member of the Steering Committee of the ECPR Standing Group on Parliaments. Besides that, I am interested in governments, institutions, and anything quantitative.

I am affiliated with the chair as well as an SNF project measuring the quality of MPs. Before joining Basel, I was a PhD student at the University of Greifswald. My PhD, which I defended in December 2025, deals with the question of how parties change their behaviour over the course of the legislative cycle, i.e. how intra-party dynamics, coalition relations, and opposition behaviour change over time. Before that, I completed my BA and MA in Political Science at the University of Mannheim.

Feel free to reach out if you have questions about my research, or if you’d like to chat about book recommendations over a cup of coffee.
